This week, 18 young Territorians proudly represented the Northern Territory at the Australian Junior Volleyball Championships in Adelaide.
For our women, it marked the first NT appearance in 28 years. For our men, it marked the first in 29 years.
This is about far more than a team travelling to a championship.
It represents more than a decade of commitment from athletes, coaches, volunteers, parents, officials and administrators who have worked together to create opportunities for young Territorians through volleyball.
Around 2014, Volleyball NT set about building a genuine player pathway. The vision was to create opportunities for young people to participate, develop their skills, fall in love with our sport, and, for those who aspired to it, earn the opportunity to represent the Northern Territory on the national stage.
That pathway has continued to grow, and today Territorians have the opportunity to represent their state across every major volleyball discipline:

* 🏐 Australian Youth Volleyball Championships
* 🏆 Australian Junior Volleyball Championships
This week’s return to the national junior stage is another significant milestone in that journey.
To every athlete who has been part of that pathway over the past decade—thank you.
Many of you invested your time, effort and passion knowing that the opportunities being created might ultimately benefit the athletes who followed you. You helped build our competitions, lifted the standard, inspired younger players and strengthened our volleyball community. This achievement belongs to you just as much as it belongs to the 18 athletes proudly wearing the NT colours in Adelaide this week.
To our coaches, thank you for the countless hours you’ve dedicated to developing athletes and sharing your knowledge. Your passion has helped shape not only better volleyball players, but confident young people who love our sport.
To our volunteers, officials, committee members and administrators, thank you for the enormous amount of work that happens behind the scenes. Representative programs don’t happen by chance—they’re built through years of planning, organising, fundraising and believing in what’s possible.
And to our parents and families, thank you for every training session, every kilometre travelled, every fundraiser, every weekend away and every word of encouragement. None of this happens without your support.
We’d also love to celebrate the generations who came before.
