Member Protection Information Officer (MPIO)

What is an MPIO?

A Member Protection Information Officer (MPIO) is a designated contact within Volleyball NT who provides confidential, impartial information and support for participants, members, parents/guardians, volunteers and officials who have concerns about behaviour, harassment, discrimination, safety or other member protection matters in volleyball. They can explain rights, relevant procedures and options for next steps under our Member Protection Policy but do not investigate or decide on complaints.

Why We Have an MPIO

Volleyball NT is committed to fostering a safe, respectful and inclusive environment for everyone involved in our sport. An MPIO helps make sure people with concerns have someone they can turn to who can listen, provide guidance and support, and refer them to the appropriate processes or personnel.

Role & Responsibilities

An MPIO at Volleyball NT can:

  • Listen to your concerns in a confidential and supportive way.

  • Provide information about Volleyball NT’s Member Protection Policy, complaint handling options and rights.

  • Help you understand the steps available to address your concern (e.g. informal resolution, formal complaint pathways).

  • Refer you to appropriate contacts such as Sport Integrity Australia resources or external support services.

An MPIO does not:

  • Investigate or adjudicate complaints.

  • Act as advocate or take sides.

  • Provide legal advice.

  • Make decisions on behalf of Volleyball NT management or judiciary.
